Brett is an avid fisho who has been fishing since he was knee high to a grasshopper.
Brett was born in Auckland where he would spend a lot of his weekends from as young as 3 out on the water with his family on their various boats from small fibreglass runabouts to 30ft yachts around the Hauraki Gulf.
In his teenage years he moved to Whitianga on the Coromandel Peninsula with his family where he helped his father run a successful boat hire company from the beach. With every opportunity he had, he would take one of the little 12 foot tinnies out and chase the Kahawai workups out in Mercury Bay.
Brett started fishing with soft-baits way back when they had just started picking up momentum in New Zealand. His PB Snapper still hasn’t managed to hit the magic 20lb mark yet but was a very respectful 80cm 18.5lb model caught in Whitianga while out on a mates boat. The fish was caught on one of the first casts for the day and was on a Nuclear Chicken soft-bait in just 18m of water over a nice bit of foul ground.
Brett has also been on dozens of trips out with his mate chasing Marlin and other game fish out of Whitianga, he has still yet to land one but he says he’s so close he can feel it. Eventually the plan is to get a trailer built for the new boat BEAST so that it can be taken around the country chasing other big game fish like Bluefin Tuna off Waihau Bay or Marlin off the West Coast.
